What is a Manasseh?
There are Manasseh’s in your future. I believe for every disappointment we’ve experienced in life God has Manasseh’s and Ephraim’s planned to make up for it. God gives beauty for ashes. When I originally got the Revelation of Manasseh, triggered by a decal I created to help me to get through the day with a sweet reminder that my current situation would not always remain. I simple piece of paper with the Word Manasseh Genesis 41:51, meant so much to me.
Let’s take a look at a few translations of Genesis 41:51
Genesis 41:51 NIV – Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.”
Genesis 41:51 (English Standard Version) – Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh. “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house
Genesis 41:51 KJV – And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.
Genesis 41:51 AMP – Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh (causing to forget), for he said, “God has made me forget all my trouble and hardship and all [the sorrow of the loss of] my father’s household.”
Manasseh is the name of Joseph’s first born son.
Season of Testing and Trail that led to Joseph’s Manasseh:
(Step 1 Jealousy) His Brothers got jealous of him and turned on him.
(Step 2 Sold him out) Their jealousy and bitterness led to them selling him out. They also violate their own conscious, dignity, character. They did this to family, someone they are supposed to love. Maybe you’ve felt betrayed by family. Stabbed in the back. Lied on and the heat of the resentment is too much.
(Step 3 He still prospers/He’s still standing…he’s actually running) Potiphar puts him charge.
(Step 4 He refuses to sell out and sleep with his master’s wife. He is then wrongly accused and put in jail) He had the opportunity to do the wrong thing when no one else is looking and he still chose righteousness. Good fruit came from his tree. People may accuse you, talk about you and he kept doing the right thing
Your Enemies Work For You: THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR. God uses your enemy’s wrong doings to position you for where he is taking you.
3 Ways Your Enemies Work for You
- Rub off the rough edges. Once you’ve encountered them and endured (pass the test) elements that are not like God are removed from your character.
- They are become a footstool that lift you up and propels you forward.
- You get to use your faith which consequently causes your faith to grow. The more we use our faith the stronger it gets.
(Step 5 Divine connection is made in jail) God will bring promotion and connections from unlikely places. His thoughts are not your thoughts. He does things in a way that may seem foolish to the natural man and the natural mind. He may not do what you’ve been believing for in the way you think. Jesus rebuked Peter in Mark 8:33 told him “ “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
(Step 6 They still forget him until 2 years later)
Joseph could not have thought this up, planned it, or have made it happen on his own. But he kept on walking. This is a faith walk. We had to fight against our flesh and keep on walking towards what may be UNSEEN right now.
(Step 7 Promotion Comes) – SUDDENLY God exalts Joseph at the age of 30. He is placed in the position of second and command to Pharaoh. Then his dream comes true. The prophetic dream God gave the young Joseph at the ripe age of seventeen had finally come to pass.
Genesis 41:41 -43 NIV:
So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him,“Make way!” Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.
This is a divine hookup. Without special education, connections etc. God made HIS WILL happen.
Manasseh is a symbol of promise. God is a God of promise.
Joseph Symbol or Type of Jesus. After Christ’s resurrection he was “he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God” (Mark 16:19NIV). Joseph was placed as Pharaoh’s right hand man, second in command. Even if we suffer, it’s not in vain. Christ suffered, so to suffer with him is honor.
Manasseh is a symbol of God’s glory. God’s glory can be seen in our lives. He wants to get glory out of our story.
Manasseh Symbol of Restoration. What God has in store for you will be better than what you lost (Joel 2:25). It will be better than what you expect (Ephesians 3:20).
